This book essentially tells the story of the relationship between two teenage boys, Gene and Phineas. This story takes place during World War II, and the setting plays a big role in the story. At times, there is animosity coming from one of the boys that harms their friendship. The combination of internal and external stressors between the two boys make for a true test of their friendship. This story takes a little time to pick up, but once it does, the story is full of action. This is also a fairly quick and easy read.
I would recommend this book to others. Although at first I didn’t particularly like this book, I slowly became more entertained as I read it. At first, I was skeptical as to how interesting the book really was. When reading this book, you should make sure to give the story a chance to pick up. As I kept reading, I found myself making predictions as to what would happen and I was shocked with what actually happened. In all, I would recommend to an avid reader to give this book a try!
