Fabiola Toussaint is the main character and she is born in America, but lived in Port Au Prince her whole life. The book begins as she returns back to American with an invitation from her aunt in Detroit, and she is determined to live a great life, one better than the one she had in Haiti. Fabiola is forced to fly on to Detroit alone. Majorie, her aunt, doesn’t know when she’ll see her mother again who was detained in the JFK airport (hence why Fabiola is flying alone). This book is action packed and a great read.
I recommend this book to anyone who is wanting a great summer read. This book is engaging, moving and everything you look for in a book. I like how the author Ibi was able to engage with the audience and create such a heartfelt book. I rate this a 5/5 for sure.
