The story is about a mathematician who can predict the future, named Hari Seldon. He predicts that the Great Empire will fall apart in the next 1,000 years and enter a long period of barbarism. To prevent this, he sets up two places called Foundations for an encyclopedia to be written so that when the Empire falls, the information will be restorable. The story also includes later stories of Salvor Hardin and Hober Mallow, who use wit similar to Seldon’s to help protect the Foundation and overcome barbaric tribes. Their stories seem unrelated but end up tying together at the end of each part.
I would not recommend the book. It was very hard to follow the plot, and many of the plans were convoluted. It required a lot of effort to understand what was going on. However, the book was well written with regards to small details. The characters were constructed well, and I enjoyed some parts of it. Overall, the book was good, but not great enough that I would recommend it to most people.
