I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson is about two twins, Jude and Noah who are inseparable. The book is told between two different point of views with alternating timelines. Noah tells the story of the past as he grows up and Jude tells the story of the present. In Noah’s part, the past, Noah loves to draw, isn’t into sport, and doesn’t really have any friends, besides Jude. Well, until a new boy moves in next door. Throughout this part, their parents argue and are having issues with their relationship. While Jude is the complete opposite and is into cliff-dives, has many friends, and talks for the both of them. In Jude’s Part, the present, they have drifted apart and both of them have changed, totally different from their past selves. However, they may or may not find themselves and drift back together.
I would definitely recommend this book because their are so many different topics that is covers. It goes from grief to being true to your self to love and relationships and more. One thing I really like about this book is that all the characters all have different interests. So there are random fun facts that range from art to astronomy to superstitions and even some stuff about diseases. The alternating POVs and timelines were also so different from other books and it kept me very engaged since I wanted to fill in all the gaps between past and present. Another thing I liked about this book is just the way it was written, it was just captivating and some parts just felt inspirational.
