(Mary #1)
This book is about Mary Queen of Scots and how she comes to rule Scotland and France. There are many historical fiction twists in this book like the conflict between the Edians and Verities. The Queen was brought up in France which was a Verity kingdom. Verities were people who believe that people were only people and couldn’t turn into animals. Edians, on the other hand, believed that every person had an animal form. Since France was a Verity kingdom they didn’t tolerate any Edians, so they would persecute them and vice versa for Scotland. Mary’s mother, who was the Queen of Scotland, sent her to France to eventually marry Francis the I. Francis was the son of King Henry the II who was the King of France at the time. Queen Mary is very rebellious and doesn’t like obeying orders from her higher ups like her uncles. Mary has four ladies in waiting who came with her from Scotland and are her closest friends. As you read this book you will find that Queen Mary eventually does become Queen of France and Scotland but has to overcome many obstacles to get there.
I would recommend this book to those who like to read historical fiction. Something unique about this book is that the authors from time to time will talk directly to the reader to help clarify what is real and what is fictional among other tid-bits of information. I also liked how the plot progressed as there were some times the plot twist was predictable and other times I was taken back by surprise. This book has a good balance between romance and adventure. I wish there was an epilogue that jumped forward two years because the ending was too short. All in all, this book was a fairly quick and interesting read.
