The book, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave is a non-fiction book written by Frederick Douglass. He was enslaved and went through horrid conditions and wanted to become a free man. He wanted to find a way to escape and was willing to do anything. Eventually, he learned how to read and write from others which helped him escape. This book had a lot of imagery and metaphors to describe the conditions that him and his fellow slaves had to endure and how they were dehumanized. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book as it was very eye opening.
I would definitely recommend this book to others. This book is a very mature book though therefore I think it is for people in high school or older. This book helped show the struggles that slaves had to go through and it also helped dispute pro slavery arguments. I did not like that some parts of the book were a little confusing to interpret. On the other hand, I liked how the book was very descriptive and had a lot of loaded language. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to people who are mature enough to read it!
