Pride and Prejudice describes the gap between the aristocratic and more conservative classes. The book divulges the prejudices of the wealthy and exposes the Victorian societies intense pressure to marry young daughters off at a young age. The story is told in the perspective of an intellectual young woman, Elizabeth, who witnessed her frivolous sisters and foolish mother obsess over men and marriage. The story narrates through Elizabeth’s own romances and family dramas with only her sister Jane to discuss her families senselessness with.
I would recommend this book, it gives insight to Victorian life and reflects on the necessity to marry at such a young age while examining women’s obsession with marriage, social ranks, and the presences that accompany. The book is well written and teaches important lessons regarding social and emotional development. The story captivates your attention as it describes Elizabeth’s life and journey to love while also reflecting on the gap between the rich and poor. I enjoyed reading this book, it was entertaining and interesting. I believe the lessons are important and there is abundant vocabulary while also maintaining an understandable dialect.
