The book Punching The Air by Yusef Salaam and Ibi Zoboi is about a 16 year old boy named Amal. He ended up getting into a dispute with another boy and he got in trouble. No one believes his side of the story besides his family members who are fighting for justice. Throughout the story, Amal expresses himself through art. This book also shows how racism still has a huge effect on people’s lives. Overall, this book was very inspiring and it teaches people to never stop fighting for justice.
I would recommend this book. This book taught me about social inequality and how it plays a huge part in people’s lives. It also teaches people to never give up. The only thing that I did not like about the book was that there was no proper ending. Personally, I don’t like these types of endings because it leaves readers wondering, but it is also good because it lets readers make a picture of what happened. The setting of this book was also good because I could easily picture what was going on so it made it very easy to read. Overall, I would recommend this book to everyone.
