This book is about a girl named Catherine that was embarrassed of her autistic brother David. Catherine got so excited when a new girl named Kristi moved into the house next door to her, but she was afraid Kristi wouldn’t like her because of her “weird” brother. Catherine also met a disabled boy named Jason when she was at David’s therapy sessions. Jason didn’t speak, but he used pictures to let people know what he wanted to say. Since Catherine loved to draw, she made pictures for Jason to use in order to help him communicate and they became friends. A problem arose when Kristi invited Catherine to a party and told her to bring Jason so she could met him. Catherine was once again embarrassed and didn’t want to go. However, when Jason found out that there was a party, he convinced Catherine to bring him. It was at the party that Catherine learned a lesson about people, disabilities, and feelings.
I would recommend this book. It teaches us a lesson about people’s perception of people with disabilities and that everyone has feelings. It also shows us that no one is perfect.
