Northern Bobwhite Quail Project
The Bryant Library is proud to be working with the Center for Environmental Education and Discovery (CEED) on the Bobwhite Quail Project. The BobWhite Quail Project was started in 2003 by Ranger Eric Powers. This hands-on conservation program engages children in topics like ecosystems, life cycles, biodiversity, citizen science, and the human impact on nature.
Northern Bobwhite Quail are rated as a “near-threatened” species, but Ranger Eric and CEED are helping them make a comeback! Our quail eggs will be incubated until they hatch (usually about 23-26 days), live at the library for a week or so, and then be donated to CEED. CEED will prepare the quail for life in the wild, and then release them to help control Long Island’s tick population!
