The Do-Over, written by Lynn Painter, is a fun romance book containing teenage love, humor, and second chances. Following the main protagonist Emilie Hornby, Emilie is trapped reliving her horrid Valentine’s Day experience in a never ending loop after a series of disastrous events. With waking up to the same morning and sleeping to the same night over and over again, Emilie receives a chance to fix her tragic day, and to fix the repetitive flaws. As Emilie embarks on her journey, she begins to realize that maybe her desires weren’t truly right for her as she thought it’d be. With each repeat of a singular day, she begins to recognize and notice things she’s never even looked at before, – like Nick Stark, the mysterious, funny guy who might be the one person who truly gets her…comparing to her boyfriend who cheated on her with his own ex. With unique remarks, The Do-Over, written by Lynn Painter is a story about second chances, true love, and figuring out that maybe the perfect plan isn’t the one you thought it was.
Personally speaking, I would 100% recommend this book. With the time loop concept, this YA book can be found with a unique twist, engaging in the fun plots, and the enjoyability of it, which also helping our main protagonist mature, and “grow up” in a way. Not only with the distinct concept, the book also includes a great amount of comedy and romance, holding a perfect blend of each. In addition, I would not only recommend it because of its plots and concepts, but also for the reasoning that Emilie (main character), could be found extremely relatable with readers, especially in her journey with learning to let go and and the difficulties of embracing the unexpected. Something I additionally enjoyed was that the book contained a mix of both humor and heart. With the comments and quotes that would make me laugh, the writing can be found funny and snappy, but also hits the emotional parts of experience that we, as people, go through in our daily lives.
