I read The Giver during Christmas (Winter) Break along with a few other novels. This book is written through the perspective of Jonás, who lives in a dystopian society that is seemingly “perfect” in that it destroys all the fear, war, hatred in the world. He meets the Giver when he is assigned the role of Receiver of Memory and The Giver instructs Jonás and becomes his mentor to ultimately save the community and learn about the truth of the past. Without spoilers, I can’t say much, however, just know that you’re in for a ride when you read this book and you will ultimately come out reading this with a important message about life.
I would recommend this book to anyone in middle school or high school. As you may know, there is a movie that came out about this book and it is pretty good. I give the book 4/5 stars and not 5 only because I didn’t really like the ending too much.
