(The Hunger Games #1)
The Hunger Games is the first of the 3 of the trilogy of the Hunger Games Verse. The story starts with the main character, Katniss, starting from a poor section of world, as the world is set in future. In this world, every section has to select 1 boy and 1 girl in order to compete in a match to the death for honor, glory, and wealth. The method on which they choose is that they can self select to join or if no one wants to, the section will draw a lottery to decide on the girl and/or the boy. Once the boy and girl is decided, they will be given a mentor to train them for whats ahead. This game is broadcasted to all the sections as this is one of the most exciting event for many of them.
I would defiantly recommend the book to anyone who likes dystopian fiction with lots of actions. In the beginning of the story, it touches onto many situations that is similar to the real world, such as poverty and oppression. It is shown through the section and situation that Katniss lives in and has to face before, during and after. As the book develops, Katniss also shows both adult and child-like emotion, such as trickery and sympathy, along with defiance. This defiance towards the people in power, very similar to how young adults often reacts gives a sense of common ground between Katniss and the reader.
