The book followed 4 main characters – Bernie, Tori, Skyler, and Isobel. They were all competing to become the one chosen legacy of their school from the year. Besides Tori, everyone had connections to the club and that is why they got in, or so they thought. Tori lived in a low to middle class house as was grieving the loss of her mom. She felt out of place as everyone else was very well to do and she felt alone. During the week of fittings, presentations, and so much more, Bernie’s mom went missing. Bernie’s mom was only found the day before the announcement but it came out that Tori’s mom did go to this school but got expelled as she was set up by Bernie’s mom but since Bernie’s mom felt bad, she nominated Tori. This caused a lot of tension especially since Tori’s dad was suing Bernie’s and Skyler’s parents law practice for never receiving the money that her family had won in a lawsuit as Tori’s mom died due to malpractice. Bernie’s mom thought that by doing this, Tori’s family would drop the charges; however, this was wrong as it only caused more and more tension.
I would definitely recommend the book The Legacies by Jessica Goodman to others. This book was filled with many plot twists and unexpected scenes which made it hard to put the book down. I also really liked how the book had so many different perspectives. On the other hand, with the different perspectives, it did get confusing at times. This book also had a lot of description which made me feel very empathetic for the characters and helped teach me that you never know what someone is going through. Overall, this book is one of my favorite books and was very intriguing.
