(The Mysterious Benedict Society #1)
The Mysterious Benedict Society is about a group of four children, each with a special gift, who are sought out and tested by Mr. Benedict and his two helpers, Rhonda and Number Two. Together the group is sent to an institute, on a secluded island, that Mr. Benedict suspects of being evil; a mission he calls the Emergency. Mr. Benedict suspects the institute of having a much larger and diabolical goal than just providing a secluded place for youth to be educated to a higher standard. They face many challenges including working as a team trying to infiltrate the academy run by Dr. Ledroptha Curtain, who is confined in a high-speed, motorized wheelchair. The book is a page-turner throughout with multiple layers and levels of plot-twists.
I would definitely recommend this book. I really liked how intricate the plot became as the pages were turned. I learned to love each character in their own way, while also having slight frustrations with them throughout the novel. I’m pretty sure I read the last 100-150 pages in one sitting because I couldn’t put the book down.
