“The Song Of Achilles” by Madeline Miller, is a Greek mythological story, revolving around many Greek gods and heroes. It is a story about sacrifice, pride, love, friendship, and redemption. It is the story of how Achilles, a Trojan hero, and Patroclus, an exiled prince are brought together. This book reimagines Homer’s “Iliad” in a way in which young adults are able to view the Trojan War from a different perspective. Not only does this book give readers a different perspective of Homer’s “Iliad,” it also allows readers to establish emotional ties to the characters, specifically Patroclus and Achilles. Miller achieves this goal by writing the novel where the readers get to see the characters grow up from twelve year old boys to 26 year old men.
I would recommend this book because it has very important themes that one can learn from. Miller uses writing techniques as a way to connect with her audience. Miller’s use of figurative language brings the book to life, allowing the reader to visualize the setting. It’s a great book for anyone who is interested in Greek mythology. It’s a captivating book that brings tears to one’s eyes.
