(Warcross book #1)
This book is centered around the game, Warcross, which has been invented by billionaire Hideo Tanaka. Its popularity spread all around the world and it’s not just a game but a way of life. The protagonist, Emika Chen, is an eighteen-year-old trying to survive with the little amount of money she has in her bank account. She works as a bounty hunter who tracks down Warcross players who are placing illegal bets on the game, in order to earn some money. In a desperate attempt to earn money, she risked hacking into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships but instead glitched into the game where everyone around the world saw her. Expecting to be arrested for ruining the opening game, she is shocked to get a call from Hideo Tanaka offering her a job. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament to find the person who had breached their security before and to uncover their plan. He wants Emika for the job and after accepting the job, Emika’s whole life changed. As she stays longer in the tournament, the more she uncovers about the plan that would affect all the people who play Warcross.
I would recommend this book as it is an interesting book with plot twists. I liked learning about all the futuristic inventions that were made and explained during the book, especially how people will play Warcross. It was such a cool and futuristic world to jump into, and it was fun to follow Emika’s journey to uncover who was hacking Warcross and what their plan was.
